MPC Yorkshire Strike

Over 130 learners, from nine YH Training Centres from across the region, will take part in Exercise Yorkshire Strike over the period 2-5 March 2020 at the Army’s Driffield Training Area.

Our Military Preparation Course aims to prepare young people for the challenges of the selection process and allow a smoother transition to Phase One Training in their chosen job role in the Armed Forces.

The brainchild of both Eddie Nicholls, a former 2 YORKS Colour Sergeant and now a YH tutor and, Colour Sergeant Danny Gasgarth from The Yorkshire Regiment Support Team, Exercise Yorkshire Strike have created a three day event to take place for the learners of YH Training Services Ltd Military Preparation Course at Driffield.

Split into three Platoons, the teams will experience operational conditions, undertaking section attacks: reconnaissance missions and patrols.  Living off Army rations, the learners will receive training and instruction from some of The Yorkshire Regiment’s finest soldiers.  This realistic experience will bode well for some of the young people attending, several of whom have already enrolled at Harrogate’s famous Army Foundation College and are about to take their first steps in their Army career.

Colour Sergeant Gasgarth says; “We regularly run this type of familiarisation training or ‘look at life’ courses’, but this is the first time we have done this on such a large scale.  I have the whole YORKS team of 16 recruiters available to work with this large group to make sure we deliver maximum benefit from the training, but with the least risk to those attending.  At the end of the exercise, we will award prizes to the Top Platoon and to the Top Student”.

An officer from The Yorkshire Regiment, will be on hand to present the prizes. It will be a fantastic event and will truly give insight into life in the Armed Forces for the learners of YH.
