“Having deciding University wasn’t the right option for me to take, I decided to look for an alternative route. The first option that appealed to me was an apprenticeship. The chance to gain some work experience whilst still receiving valuable education would benefit my career in the long run.

I saw YH Training Services advertising online for a Customer Service Apprentice with a local company called Norwood Interiors, a kitchen, bedroom and bathroom retailer so I applied.  Customer service was a field I was already experienced in with my previous jobs.   I had a successful interview and became a member of the team. After the first few weeks at my new job I fitted in nicely, with every member of staff coming across as very friendly and enjoying the office environment.  My trainer from YH Mel came in and started me on my Customer Service qualification which fitted in nicely with my job role.

My day to day role involves a wide range of duties; dealing with customer  queries and problems quickly  and effectively, daily communication with customers via telephone or electronically for example email, ordering  parts through  suppliers,  quality  control checks  on our products,  constantly  updating  diaries  and schedules,  liaising with  engineers  and customers to book suitable times for  both to  complete  remedial work.

Throughout my year as an apprentice I received training and support from my YH trainer Mel Jackson; she was most helpful in aiding me and ensuring I successfully passed my Apprenticeship.   Helping me improve my coursework and pass the tests I had to undertake, drastically improving my personal skills, including grammar and punctuality.

Mel gave me huge support as well as my Manager Alan Dixon whom I would both like to thank. I am now a full time member at Norwood Interiors but still looking to further my education with YH Training, possibly moving onto a Level 3 qualification in the near future. I would recommend anyone who’s looking into apprenticeship to strongly consider YH training and their services.”

“I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciated your help and support while I was doing (and not doing) my AAT.

Having the qualification, and the knowledge I got from it, has helped me get to where I find myself now.  I have worked for Cirrus for 18 months, after doing 2 years at Dale Power as a ledger clerk, and I am now in the process of taking over from the Financial Controller who has recently left, and running the Finance Department in his place.

I have also started my CIMA, and I’m determined to get it completed before I’m 40…….. gives me 5 years .

So anyway, “Thank you Maz and YH”, I know I wasn’t the ideal student, but I appreciate all the help you gave me making sure I could sit the exams and getting my qualifications.

“After attending my schools sixth form studying A-Levels for a year, then moving on to study a BTEC course at another college, I realised these options weren’t suitable for me. I then decided to search for an Apprenticeship in business administration, as this allowed me to be working in a full time job and gaining qualifications and skills at the same time.

I applied for a Level 2 Business and Administration apprenticeship, with Leeds Fleet Services, advertised by YH Training through the national apprenticeships website. I then received a phone call from YH Training services explaining I had been offered an interview. YH Training were very supportive and helped answer any questions I had regarding the interview process; after attending my interview I was delighted when I was offered a placement.

Since starting my Apprenticeship at Leeds Fleet Services I have already improved on many key skills such as communication and IT, which will be of great value as I progress through my career.

My Trainer has been very supportive through my training and helped me progress through my assignments at my own pace so as to not interfere with my work in the office; my duties include answering customers’ phone calls, booking in MOTs, keeping records of stock used and any other general administrative duties.

Overall I am enjoying the training process and hope to continue with my current employer after my Apprenticeship has completed.”

“In Feb 2012 I enrolled on a 12 month Apprenticeship with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust (YAS) as a Patient Transportation Service Driver and undertook a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Healthcare Support Services.

I had previously achieved Levels 2 and 3 in Customer Service with YH Training and decided to undertake the Healthcare Apprenticeship to pursue a new career. For me, work based qualifications were the way forward as I have a young son and heavy personal commitments out of work. By undertaking the Apprenticeship, I had the flexibility to ‘Earn as well as Learn’ and during my training both YH and the Ambulance Service really supported my career as I developed my skills and worked towards my qualification.

During the course of my qualification I felt my career path was to use the skills and knowledge I’d learned to train others. Whilst applying for future job roles within YAS, I saw that YH were advertising for a trainee Trainer role. The successful candidate would be working to supply training and support learners within YAS so I applied. I was extremely pleased to be short listed and interviewed for the position and even more pleased to be offered the role.

I am now a fully qualified Trainer for YH and delivering Healthcare Support Services Training to Apprentices at YAS whilst at the same time undertaking further training and qualifications myself. I enjoy every minute of what I do and would recommend Apprenticeships and YH as a route to anyone looking to progress. It worked for me!”
