A YORK-BASED charity got a helping hand from a team of teenage volunteers. The members of a military preparation course with YH Training in York helped decorate rooms at the SNAPPY headquarters in Lowther Street, in a project that has saved the charity hundreds of pounds.Anne Stamp, service manager at SNAPPY, said the team had done a great job. She said: “They’ve decorated part of our sensory room and some of the walls downstairs, making them a bit brighter for the children.
“They’ve needed doing for a while, and they’ve sourced all the paint and materials whemselves, so it’s cost us nothing. So far, it’s looking good.”
Mick Thompson is a tutor with YH Training, and joined in with the eight volunteers during the decorating, which has counted towards the military preparation course. He said: “They get taught maths and English in personal development, and get involved with a community project to improve employability.
“They came up with the idea for this project themselves, and it has turned out really well. “They’ve had to source everything themselves, which would have cost about £100, but the job would probably have cost SNAPPY £500.”
