Learn the basics

With our Military Preparation Course you will learn all the valuable skills and disciplines required for Armed Forces recruitment and enlistment

Discipline

To be effective on operations, Forces personnel must act as a disciplined force with orders carried out under instruction, confident that they will not be let down by their comrades. Discipline is the primary antidote to fear and maintains operational effectiveness and it is supported by team loyalty, trust and professionalism; it instils self-control and breeds self-confidence.

Good discipline means that all Forces personnel will obey orders, under the worst conditions, and to do so with imagination and resource. The best discipline is self-discipline: innate, not imposed and it is with this in mind that M.P.C. starts the learning journey of those destined to be a self-disciplined member of the HM Forces.

At M.P.C. there are many opportunities where Personal and Professional skills and development overlap, with the course content being designed and individualised to promote this. Our belief is that where an individual takes responsibility for self development and academic learning, they are pro-active in achieving their own personal goals and career aspirations. This ability positively affects their overall effectiveness when applying for and joining, HM Forces.   Our staff offer support in confidence building, social skills, finance and health and well-being around formal studies and vocational learning, ensuring all students become well-rounded, effective forces personnel of the future.

What do our students think about M.P.C.?

Chris set high standards for future YH M.P.C. students when he passed the Army selection test with the highest grade seen in the York Army career office’s history; something he attributes to hard work, good role models and the help of our M.P.C tutors. Chris’s path to success has been extremely positive, as he was ‘the bad boy turned good’.

Since enlisting into the Yorkshire Regiment and successfully ‘passing out’, Chris received special recognition by being chosen out of 1000 recruits for the ‘Best Recruit’ Award. Chris and his face are now being used by the Armed Forces on their posters for their recruitment campaign.

Chris White
“On my first day I had to do a mile and a half best effort run and I never realised how hard it was going to be; I achieved nine minutes, thirty seconds and felt like I was going to be sick. M.P.C. has done so much for me, improved my fitness massively and my math’s and English a lot more. I know know that when I join up, I want to enlist in the Royal Logistics Corps. The course has made me want to try a lot more in everything we do, which is going to give me a lot better chance of achieving my dream of joining the Forces, I don’t think I would of achieved it if I didn’t get the opportunity to come on M.P.C.”
