“In Feb 2012 I enrolled on a 12 month Apprenticeship with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust (YAS) as a Patient Transportation Service Driver and undertook a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Healthcare Support Services.
I had previously achieved Levels 2 and 3 in Customer Service with YH Training and decided to undertake the Healthcare Apprenticeship to pursue a new career. For me, work based qualifications were the way forward as I have a young son and heavy personal commitments out of work. By undertaking the Apprenticeship, I had the flexibility to ‘Earn as well as Learn’ and during my training both YH and the Ambulance Service really supported my career as I developed my skills and worked towards my qualification.
During the course of my qualification I felt my career path was to use the skills and knowledge I’d learned to train others. Whilst applying for future job roles within YAS, I saw that YH were advertising for a trainee Trainer role. The successful candidate would be working to supply training and support learners within YAS so I applied. I was extremely pleased to be short listed and interviewed for the position and even more pleased to be offered the role. I am now a trainee Trainer for YH and delivering Healthcare Support Services Training to Apprentices at YAS whilst at the same time undertaking further training and qualifications myself. I enjoy every minute of what I do and would recommend Apprenticeships and YH as a route to anyone looking to progress. It worked for me!
