In March of 2015 the Director General of the BBC launched a national BBC Traineeship programme aimed at developing young people aged 16-24 ensuring they  gain the appropriate life skills so that they are ready for  entry level jobs and Apprenticeships across the UK economy. This is a key part of the BBC’s ‘Make it Digital’ year of 2015.

YH Training Services has been selected by the BBC to deliver the Traineeship curriculum in Hull, Huddersfield and Halifax and York  and are looking to recruit  a total of 175 young people across these areas aged 16-24 who want to undertake tjeight-week Traineeship provision.  This will include five weeks of employability training and three weeks of work experience designed to grow basic digital knowledge and strong employability skills.

The Traineeships will be based at YH Training centres local to Halifax, Huddersfield, Hull and York and will commence at the beginning of August.    We feel that due to the nature of the Traineeships and also with the start date being in August there will be fierce competition for the places.

The overall aim is to prepare young people for an Apprenticeship or a sustainable job. Whilst some of the Trainees may progress into the digital sector, it is recognised that digital skills are transferable across all sectors of industry.  YH and the BBC are seeking to develop these young people to be employable across all sectors.

Whilst they are completing the Traineeship, learners will have the opportunity to gain knowledge in several areas of digital media including but not limited to: Social Media, Apps, Gaming, Web Design, Blogging, Professional Documents such as cover letters, CV’s and creating an online portfolio.

The Traineeship will include high quality work experience, job search skills, employability skills and English and maths where required.
